Governor Schwarzenegger Signs Legislation Honoring
President Ronald Reagan
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced he has
signed SB 944 by Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) and AB 1911 by Assembly Republican Leader Martin Garrick (R-Carlsbad) honoring President Ronald Reagan for his life’s accomplishments and his contributions to California.
“As California’s governor, Ronald Reagan made great strides in strengthening
our Golden State, and as the President of the United
States, his dedication to freedom and democracy changed
the world,” said Governor Schwarzenegger. “With this legislation, we celebrate Ronald Reagan’s incredible legacy and his spirit of optimism. Our
nation is stronger because of him, and it is important
for future Californians to learn about and acknowledge
the extraordinary work he did for the state and country
he loved.”
SB 944 officially designates February 6 of each year as “Ronald Reagan Day” in California. On this day, all public schools and
educational institutions will be encouraged to conduct
exercises remembering the life of President Ronald
Reagan, recognizing his accomplishments and the contributions
he made to the state.
“As the only California Governor to become President,
Ronald Reagan stands out as one of our state’s greatest leaders,” said Senator George Runner. “President Reagan’s many accomplishments are a model of responsibility
and an inspiration to individuals around the world.
It is important for California school children to study
such a meaningful and positive leader.”
AB 1911 establishes the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission,
which will be tasked with honoring and promoting the
celebration of the 100th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan’s birthday on February 6, 2011.
“The Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission will celebrate
and honor one of the most influential California Governors
and American Presidents in history on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Just as Ronald Reagan taught the next generation about
the greatness of America, this commission will help
teach future generations about Ronald Reagan’s character, optimism, ideals, and enduring legacy,” said Assembly Republican Leader Martin Garrick. “In keeping with President Reagan’s distrust of bigger government, this bill won’t use taxpayer dollars and won’t grow the bureaucracy.”
